Verify Your Paypal Account using SmartMoney

For you to start earning money online, you at least need a verified Paypal account so you would be eligible to get paid by all online money-making programs that pay through Paypal. However, to verify your account with Paypal, you either need a credit card or a debit card. But, I found out through a friend that Filipinos can now actually verify their Paypal account using SmartMoney.

This is great news for Pinoys like me who are making money online and are using Paypal as their main payment processor. Plus, getting your own SmartMoney card is very easy since you won’t have to worry about submitting any financial documents or annual fees, unlike when you apply for a credit card.

NOTE: SmartMoney CANNOT be used to withdraw your Paypal funds. So, I highly recommend you get a Unionbank EON card because you can use it for verifying and for withdrawals.

Now, let me show you how you can verify your Paypal account with SmartMoney. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message, ok?

Get your own SmartMoney account/card.

This is only open to Smart subscribers, obviously. First of all, make sure you check with Smart helpdesk/customer service if your Smart SIM can be used for SmartMoney. I’ve heard from other Smart subscribers that some older SIMs and even new ones need to be upgraded before they can use SmartMoney.

You can get a SmartMoney account and card through any Smart Wireless Center OR you can apply online by filling up this online application form and just follow the instructions. You need Php 30.00 for the processing fee & the card, PLUS at least Php 200.00 to load on your SmartMoney account, which would be used when you start verifying your Paypal account. You’d get it back, don’t worry.

You must be aged 12 years or older to be eligible for a SmartMoney account. Also, you need to submit a photocopy of  a valid ID when you go to the Smart Wireless Center for the application.

If you applied through a Smart Wireless Center, you can choose if you would like to receive the card through snail mail or if you’d want to just claim it through any Smart Wireless center you prefer.

If you applied online, you will receive a call from a Smart rep informing you that your card is ready for pickup and just advise them where you’d want to pickup the card. When you go pick up the card, that’s when you’ll pay the Php 30.00 processing fee.

After receiving your card, make sure you activate it using the Smart menu on your phone.

Very convenient, eh? Now, remember that you need to deposit money to your SmartMoney account before you can use it to verify your Paypal account because you’ll be charged at least $3.00 for linking your SmartMoney account to Paypal and verifying your Paypal account. Don’t worry, though, because you’ll get back the $1.95 in 2-5 days. So, just load your SmartMoney card at the Smart Wireless center or from loading centers that sell SmartMoney balance. I suggest you load at least Php 200.00.

How to Activate your Smart Money?

Option 1: Key-word Based
i. Type in MONEY and Send it to 343

That’s straight from SmartMoney’s Frequently Asked Questions.

Link/Add your SmartMoney account to your Paypal Account.

You have to make sure you follow the steps below to prevent any problems when you link your SmartMoney account to your Paypal account:

Ensure Internet transactions are unlocked on your SmartMoney account.

To do this, go to your Smart menu and open SmartMoney. There should be “Internet Txns” menu option there. If you don’t see it anywhere, you can call SmartMoney helpdesk and request for that menu to be activated OR text “internet” (without the quotes) and send to 343. This should activate the Internet Txns menu on your Smart menu.

If Internet Txns is already available, select that and choose Unlock and pick your SmartMoney card name. You’ll be asked to enter your PIN. Wait for the confirmation that Internet transactions are unlocked then proceed to the next step.

Enter SmartMoney Account details to Paypal.

Login to Paypal and click on the Get Verified link on the main page of your account.

Fill up all the information on the next page using your SmartMoney card number, expiration date, etc.

Wait for Confirmation from Paypal.

You should receive a text message from Smart that says EXPUSE and it includes a code that looks like “P*####“. The 4 numbers actually is the confirmation code you need to enter on your Paypal account to finish the verification process.

Enter the Confirmation Code to Paypal.

Now, before you can do this, you HAVE to unlock Internet Txns again through your Smart menu. Remember that Smart locks your SmartMoney account after every online transaction.
Once you’ve unlocked it, go back to your Paypal account page and enter the confirmation code that you received. You should receive a confirmation message that your Paypal account has been verified.

That’s it! Easy, right? Now, you have a verified Paypal account.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message below. I hope this helps all the Pinoys out there who want to start making money online, too.

Verify Your Paypal Account Using Unionbank EON

After you’ve successfully applied for a Unionbank EON card and enrolling it with CyberAccount, let me guide you on how you can use it to verify your Paypal account. With this guide, you will also learn how to link your Paypal account to your Unionbank EON card for future withdrawals.

I have posted a guide before about another way for you to verify your Paypal account by using SmartMoney. If you don’t want to spend Php 550.00 (Php 350 for the EON card, Php 200 for the Paypal verification which would be refunded to you) for the whole Paypal verification using Unionbank EON, you can opt for the SmartMoney method. However, for your Paypal fund withdrawals, you will need or use Unionbank EON so you might as well get one and use it for verification AND withdrawals, right?

Why is it important to verify your Paypal account? Although you can receive unlimited amount of money, you won’t be able to use your Paypal funds to purchase online since most online stores accept payments from verified Paypal accounts only.

Alright, so, on to the guide about verification of your Paypal account using Unionbank EON card. Read on.

  1. First of all, you have to deposit at least Php 150-200 to your Unionbank EON account for the Paypal account verification. Paypal will be charging your account $1.95 for this verification. Don’t worry because this amount will be refunded to your Paypal account afterwards.

Note: DO NOT continue with the verification unless you have deposited the said amount to your Unionbank EON account. Otherwise, the verification will fail.

  2. Login to your Paypal account and click on the Get Verified link on the Account Overview page.
  3. On the next page, fill up the form with your Unionbank EON card details. Then, click on Save and Continue button.
  4. Now, wait for your 4-digit Expanded Use (EXPUSE) number to reflect on your Unionbank EON account. You can login to Unionbank CyberAccount and check your transaction history to check if your EXPUSE # is already there. It should be located next to the Paypal transaction entry in your account. You can also try calling Unionbank’s Customer Service and ask for your EXPUSE number. You can check their hotline # at the back of the card or call 84-186.
  5. Once you have the number, go back to your Paypal account overview and click on Finish Expanded Use Enrollment. Usually, though, once you login, Paypal will prompt you with the screen where you should enter the 4-digit EXPUSE number.
  6. After entering the EXPUSE number, Paypal will give you a confirmation that your debit/credit card has been verified and that’s it! Your account is already verified! Now, the liimts on how much you transfer or withdraw will be lifted and you can use it for online shopping!

How to Get Your Alertpay Account Verified

I have just sent in the last document I needed to get my Alertpay account verified so I decided to write this guide now on how you can get your AlertPay account verified.

Verification of your Alertpay account is not really necessary but most sites that accept Alertpay payments require verified accounts. Anyway, the process is very easy. However, if you still choose to not verify, that’s okay. You can still receive or transfer funds through Alertpay .

Alertpay requires 2 verification documents for the whole process – a copy of 1 proof of address and 1 photo ID:

  • Photo identification can be one of the following:
    • Driver’s license
    • Passport
    • State ID, Country ID or Photo Medical ID
    • For Pinoys, your SSS or TIN/BIR ID cards will do.

Important Note: The four edges of the ID card should be visible. And, if the expiration date is at the back of the ID, you should send a copy of the back of the card, too.

  • Proof of address must show your name and address and be dated within the last 6 months. You can submit one of the following:
    • Utility Bill
    • Phone bill
    • Credit card statement – I blurred out the credit card # on the scanned copy I sent.
    • Bank Statement

Now, there are also 2 ways you can send in your verification documents:

  • By mailing them in.
If you have a scanner or a digital camera, it’s easier if you just upload a copy or photo of your verification documents so the verification process will be faster. However, if you have no access to a scanner or digital camera, you can go ahead and mail them in.

When sending your verification documents through snail mail, you would also need the verification submission cover letter along with the photocopies of your verification documents. Here’s how to get the verification submission cover letter:

    • Click on the “Become verified” button on your account overview page.
    • Under “Verification type”, choose the first document you want to submit.
    • Choose your “Form Type”.
    • Under “Submission Type”, click on “Mail in document”.
    • Right-click on “verification submission cover letter”, which appears in green, so it will open in a new window. Then, go back to the first window and simply click on Finish.

Print it out, fill it in and submit it with your valid photo ID and proof of address. Here’s what that verification cover letter looks like (click to zoom in):

These documents will be processed after they were received by AlertPay.

Here’s the mailing address where you should send in your verification documents:

    AlertPay Inc.
    Attn: Verification Department
5200 De La Savane, Suite 220
    Montreal, Quebec H4P-2M8
    Canada

  • By uploading them.
This is the easiest way to submit your verification documents – by simply uploading them. First thing you need to do is scan or take a photo of your photo ID and proof of address, making sure that the 4 edges of both documents are shown.
    • Click on the “Become verified” button on your account overview page.
    • Under “Verification type”, choose the first document you want to submit.
    • Choose your “Form Type”. Browse for the copy of the file (in .pdf, .jpg, .gif format)
    • Do this again for the second verification document.
    • Once you’re done, you should get this message saying that the verification process will take about 10 days.

That’s it! All you have to do is wait ’til your account is verified. You can check the status of your verification on the Account Overview page.

How to Get your Paypal Account Verified

After signing up for your own Paypal account, let me show you how you can verify it.

First, let me explain to you why you would want to get your Paypal account verified. The MAIN reason is Paypal sets initial limits on the amount of money you can send, receive and withdraw from your Paypal account. Once your account is verified, those limits are lifted and you won’t have to worry about that for a very long time.

Reminder: You must be 18 years and older to sign up for a Paypal account. However, if you really want to try this out, you can create an account under your sibling or parents’ name, but ask them for permission first, okay? There’s no limit on how much you can receive but there’s a limit on how much you can send and transfer from Paypal. If you want to verify your Paypal account, the whole verification process involves a debit or credit card (Unionbank EON or SmartMoney for Pinoys), you can just ask your sibling or parent if they can open an account or if you can use their card for the verification. Anyway, it’s just $1.95 charge for the verification, which will be refunded afterwards.

Note: You might be asked by Paypal to setup 2 security questions before you can proceed to the verification process. Make sure you take note of your answers as they’re VERY important.

For this verification process, you will need:

  • A debit or credit card under YOUR name
For Pinoys, we can actually use a Unionbank EON Card or SmartMoney to verify our Paypal accounts. Read my guides here for Unionbank EON card and here for SmartMoney.

  • At least $1.95 available balance on your debit or credit card.
Paypal will be charging you this amount for verification but they will refund it to you after your card or account has been confirmed. Take note that the $1.95 won’t go back to your debit or credit card but it will show up on your Paypal balance once your account is verified.

The Verification Process
  1. Reminder, Paypal will be charging your account $1.95 for this verification. Don’t worry because this amount will be refunded to your Paypal account afterwards.

Note: DO NOT continue with the verification otherwise, the verification will fail.

  2. Login to your Paypal account and click on the Get Verified link on the Account Overview page.
  3. You should see this screen where you would enter your debit or credit card information.
Again, make sure all the information you enter are accurate.

Click on Save and Continue. Your account will then be charged $1.95 by Paypal.

  4. Now, here’s the hard part. If you used a credit or debit card, you have to check your bank statement or billing statement that will be mailed to you OR if you can check it online, that would be BETTER!You can also try to call your debit/credit card issuing bank’s Customer Service/Billing department and ask them for the 4-digit EXP (expanded) use code for Paypal so you won’t have to wait too long for that.

If you can access your bank or billing statement online, then, just look for that 4-digit EXP code that’s linked to the $1.95 charge on your account. It usually starts with 4 digits followed with PAYPAL. Take note of that 4-digit code.

  5. Now, once you have that EXPUSE 4-digit code, go back to Paypal and confirm your card by entering that 4-digit code. Once done, your Paypal account is verified! Woohoo!!
